On this page I accumulated information about some support tools for the Shimano based Ebike or Emtb.
With these tools only the software settings of the bike are changed !!! Some of these tools allow to change (unlock, software flash) the riding characteristics, the speed restrictions (destination country), adjusting the wheel circumstance and/or the gear mode and much more.
If you do not want to downgrade the firmware of the motor but want to increase the maximum support speed then currently you need a Windows application, eMax and StUnlocker, and Shimano SM-PCEx interface to make the changes.

Changing the circumstance or gear mode allows an additional speed in/de-crease but causes inaccurate speed indication on the bike's display. Downgrading the motor firmware to the official version 4.3.2 will allow to set maximum speeds per drive mode (eco, trail, boost).
I understand that downgrading the motor firmware is possible with the Shimano SM-PCE1 interface with Windows E-tube version 3.3.2 or with a rename trick with the Shimano SM-PCE02 interface with Windows E-tube version 3.4.5 . Maybe this trick could also work with the Android/IOS E-Tube app from Shimano but no garantees here. Google on "emax firmware downgrade".

All tools allow to change the riding characteristics, the motor torque [20 .. 90 Nm] and assist ratio [20 .. 300 %], per drive mode (eco, trail, boost). But only E-Tube has restricted that into 3 steps. All other tools allow a specific value within their range. SEE SPREADSHEET BELOW. Unlock codes are based on the serial number of the motor unit which is unique per motor.

Tuning tip when you want 32.1 mph (from www.emtbforums.com ):

  • Change the region to the 20 mph region and change wheelsize to: (your genuine wheel circumference) X 0.6210
  • Next switch the display settings to show in Km and the speed digits shown will now be your correct speed in MPH (as will distance and Avg speed etc.)
  • Your motor will now assist to an actual speed of 32.1 mph (approx. 52.6 km/h)
